Launch Tool

Test your reaction time with this interactive game! Take control of a hungry frog and catch a fly as soon as you see or hear it.

There are three rounds to this activity. The first round tests your visual reaction time. The second round tests your audible reaction time, and the third round randomly tests both. Within a round, you complete three trials. At the end of each round, you are shown your trial times and average. The activity pauses to allow for recording or discussion. You can look for improvements in your reaction times, as well as compare your visual and audible times.

The "Learn More" feature provides students with information about what is occurring in the body during each reaction.

For Educators

You can use this resource in the classroom to help your students explore how interactions among the senses, nerves, and brain make possible the learning that enables human beings to predict, analyze, and respond to changes in their environment. You also can use it to help emphasize how practice can improve students' performance at various tasks.

To use in your classroom, you can divide your students into pairs and have them take turns playing and recording their scores. You may want to encourage them to wait until they play the activity to look over the "Learn More" section to understand the step-by-step process that occurred in their bodies when they were trying to zap the fly.
